God With Us Publications

Announces . . .

This is a companion to the popular icon packet, Come Bless the Lord. Like the first packet, Revelation in Color contains a collection of 8˝x11" full-color icons on heavy coated paper with background information on the back of each icon. The icons, along with an introductory essay, “Icons: Images of Glory,” are enclosed in a heavy protective envelope.

While Come Bless the Lord focused on icons for the Great Feasts and principal saints’ days in the Byzantine liturgical year, Revelation in Color presents icons illustrating major New Testament scenes. The fifty icons in this new packet picture Gospel scenes such as the call of the disciples and the dance of Salome. Other images feature miracles of Christ, such as the healing of the blind man at the pool and the multiplication of the loaves and fish. Christ’s parables, such as the talents and the laborers in the vineyard are featured in other icons in this important resource

Based on frescoes found in monasteries throughout Greece, the icons were painted by Georgios Bozas, Anastasios Katharopoulos, and George Nikolacopoulos. They were collected, augmented and initially published by the late Helen Protopapdakis-Papaconstantinou of Athens.

Background material includes Scriptural commentary excerpted from The Holy Gospel, a Byzantine Perspective and  Apostolic Writings, a Byzantine Perspective, both by Reverend John S Custer, STD, professor of Holy Scripture at Pittsburgh’s Byzantine Catholic Seminary of Saints Cyril and Methodius and also published by God With Us. Additional material was written and compiled by the Reverend Jonathan Morse, PhD, director of religious education for the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Eparchy of Stamford and by the Reverend Fred Saato, director of God With Us Publications.

Also included in the background material are references to the use of the illustrated Scripture passages in the Byzantine liturgical cycle, the Roman Lectionary used by Western Catholics and the Revised Common Lectionary, used by many Protestants.

Both icon packets as well as the Scriptural commentaries of Father Custer are available from Theological Book Service at 1-877-484-1600.
